Case Study:

Shetland Gas Plant - Petrofac - 2015

LocationShetland Gas Plant
MissionTo provide tradesmen, technicians and welding services for a major gas plant project

The Brief

Ocean Kinetics was approached by Petrofac in 2015 to provide trades labour and supervision for work on the Shetland Gas Plant project.
Initially providing structural steel services, we mobilised a team of 16 experienced tradesmen, before increasing numbers to bring in a team of mechanical technicians. As our scope of work increased and we also began to provide welding services.

The Challenge

Providing all mechanical trades required for the final completion and snagging at the Shetland Gas Plant meant providing over 30 workers on site, including teams of pipe-fitters and riggers, before the final handover to Total.

This meant training several personnel in the plant's ISSOW system, enabling them to write permits, complete work packs and complete up to thirty punch list items per day. In addition, we hired plant, provided tools and are supported the full remit of mechanical work scopes.

The Result

Our ability to fully resource all our trades from our base in Lerwick meant that downtime was minimised as additional plant, tools, parts and fittings could be on to site at immediate notice without loss of time on the job.

We held regular meetings and face to face dialogue with the client ensuring we fully understood their expectations and requirements, and were able to manage our resources and provide an excellent level of service.

Understanding site dynamics and health and safety requirements has been key, and our HSE manager was an integral part of the weekly site safety meetings. This approach was vindicated by the completion of 60,000 man hours on site without a reportable incident, achieved by Ocean Kinetics in February 2016.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Ocean Kinetics Team & Management for their support to the project.”
