NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING FACILITY
Ocean Kinetics has officially opened its Non-Destructive Testing facility – the only commercial service of its kind in Shetland.
Attendees were invited to take a virtual walk through the premises and find out about the range of services that are now available to businesses and organisations seeking quality assured testing of pipework, pressure systems and welded joints in the manufacturing, repair and maintenance process. You can watch the video tour here.
Managing director of Ocean Kinetics, John Henderson, said: “Ocean Kinetics has long specialised in marine works, metal works and fabrication, welding, pipework, repair and corrosion prevention, project management and design, and we recognised that there was a real need for radiographic inspection facilities in Shetland. We have therefore invested in an innovative service that will reduce fabrication lead times, minimise handling costs and offer an attractive service to a range of clients.
“The facility, housed in a fully refurbished building opposite our main premises at Port Business Park in Lerwick, includes a radiation exposure bay with vehicle access and overhead crane, a hydrostatic pressure testing facilities with CCTV surveillance, a fully-equipped dark room, ultrasonic inspection facilities, and SPX hydraulic bolting and calibration equipment.
“The completion of the facility coincided with COVID restrictions, so we have been unable to open the doors to the public in the way that we would have wished. Instead, we have conducted the opening online and provided a virtual tour of the facility.
“We have been delighted by the interest in the facility to date, and have already undertaken radiography and pressure testing of pipework for Enquest and Total, and radiography testing of pipes for Lerwick Engineering and Fabrication (LEF). From today’s introduction to the facility, we very much hope that we can go on to help a range of clients meet their particular inspection requirements.
