CASE STUDY

Petrofac – major gas plant project
Client: Petrofac
Location: Shetland Gas Plant

Project:

To provide tradespeople, technicians and welding services for a major gas plant project.

From providing structural steel services with a team of 16 experienced tradespeople, Ocean Kinetics went on to bring in a team of mechanical technicians and welders to deliver a wide range of work.

Ocean Kinetics had 30 on-site workers providing a range of mechanical trades, including pipe fitters and riggers for the final completion and snagging of the project before final handover to operator.

The project involved training team members in the plant’s ISSOW system, enabling them to write permits, complete work packs, and complete up to 30 punch list items per day. In addition, we hired plant, provided tools, and supported the full remit of mechanical work scopes.

Solution:

Ocean Kinetics’ ability to fully resource all our trades from our base in Lerwick meant that downtime was minimised as additional plant, tools, parts and fittings could be on site at immediate notice without loss of time on the job.

We held regular meetings and face to face dialogue with the client, ensuring that we fully understood their expectations and requirements and could thus provide an excellent level of service.

Understanding site dynamics and safety requirements was key, and our HSE manager was an integral part of the weekly site safety meetings. This approach was vindicated by the completion of 60,000 work hours on site without a reportable incident.

KEY FACTS

100,000 accident-free work-hours
12 months active on site
More than 1,000 work scopes completed
30 on-site workers
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Ocean Kinetics team and management for their support to the project.”
Khaled Ghabboura, Project Director, Laggan-Tormore SGP Project
