Rocket Factory Augsburg – transport storage tanks
Project:
To support the transport of four 18m long x 4m diameter steel water storage tanks from Aberdeen to Baltasound, Shetland, for the SaxaVord Spaceport.
The project posed significant logistical challenges due to the size of the tanks, which made road transport unfeasible – particularly because they exceeded the capacity restrictions of the Unst Ferry, meaning travel by sea was the only viable option.
Solution:
The Ocean Kinetics marine plant team mobilised quickly, deploying their barge P7 and Multicat BK Marjorie to carry out the 50+ mile sea transport.
Working with DFDS, the tanks were loaded onto the Ocean Kinetics barge in Lerwick and transported by sea to Baltasound Harbour. There, they were offloaded by RS Henderson and transported to the spaceport in Unst.
Ocean Kinetics remained closely involved throughout, ensuring the tanks were delivered to site on time and without incident.
