OCEAN KINETICS INVITES ‘FUTURES’ SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
Ocean Kinetics invites ‘Futures’ scholarship applicants
Ocean Kinetics has announced that it is now accepting applications for its 2024 scholarship programme. The scheme is open to students who plan to study a STEM subject (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) at university or college. The successful candidate will be awarded an annual bursary of £3,000 and will receive personal mentoring and paid work experience at Ocean Kinetics outside term time.
Anyone interested in the programme should submit an application before the closing date of 2 August 2024.
Managing director of Ocean Kinetics, John Henderson, said: “We are very proud to have supported three students on their career path over recent years.
“Elsie Msalila, studying mechatronics at the University of Glasgow, James Rendall, studying mechanical engineering at Edinburgh Napier University, and Daniel Henry, who has just graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a First-Class Honours in chemical engineering.
“At Ocean Kinetics, we truly understand the importance of investing in our young people. Creating and maintaining a highly skilled young workforce will keep the islands alive for generations to come. To that end, we have supported Shetland’s young people through apprenticeships and graduate placements across a range of trades and specialisms over the years, including coded welders, fabricators, turners, mechanical fitters, divers, project engineers, site managers, CSWIP/PCN qualified inspectors and 3D CAD design engineers.”
Applications in writing are open to Shetland students who plan to study a STEM subject at either HND or degree level this year.
Letters should include the applicant’s skills and qualifications, the chosen course and college/university, and the reason they are drawn to this particular course/establishment. They should also explain why they believe they are the ideal candidate, if there are any barriers that might prevent them undertaking study without scholarship support, and anything that is interesting or unique about their choice of career and/or ambitions, and how that ambition might benefit Shetland in the future.
Email to info@oceankinetics.co.uk by 2 August 2024. After the closing date, the applications will be reviewed and a shortlist of candidates will be invited for interview, based on the requirements of the scholarship.
