OCEAN KINETICS ANNUAL ‘FUTURES’ SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME OPEN FOR APPLICANTS 

Ocean Kinetics has today (31 August 2026) announced that applications are now open for its 2026 ‘Futures’ Scholarship Programme, supporting students studying STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics at either HND or degree level.

The successful student will receive a £3,000 annual bursary, together with one-to-one mentoring from the Ocean Kinetics team and the opportunity to undertake paid work placements during university breaks. The programme is designed to provide both financial support and practical industry experience throughout the individual’s studies.

Robbie Georgeson, Ocean Kinetics Engineer and Futures Mentor, said: “We were delighted with the quality of scholarship applications last year. The standard was so high that we decided to award the scholarship to two students, Calum Mackay and Alisers Abuladze. Both have been working at Ocean Kinetics over the summer, with fellow recipients, Jos Hatrick and James Rendall. All gaining valuable experience alongside their studies.”

Alisers Abuladze said: “The scholarship has given me a good feel for what I could be doing in the future and a valuable insight into what it’s like to be an engineer.”

Calum Mackay said: “My experience at Ocean Kinetics has been really valuable. There’s a lot of support from senior engineers.”

Applications in writing are invited from Shetland students who plan to study a STEM subject at either HND or degree level this year. Letters should include the applicant’s skills and qualifications, the chosen course and college/university, and the reason they are drawn to this particular course/establishment. They should also explain why they believe they are the ideal candidate, if there are any barriers that might prevent them undertaking study without scholarship support, and anything that is interesting or unique about their choice of career and/or ambitions, and how that ambition might benefit Shetland in the future.

Email to info@oceankinetics.co.uk by 18 September 2026. After the closing date, the applications will be reviewed and a shortlist of candidates may be invited for interview, based on the requirements of the scholarship.
