Delivering for the Fair Isle Ferry Terminal
DELIVERING FOR THE FAIR ISLE FERRY TERMINAL
Our latest investment in marine assets was swiftly put to use with the deployment of our newly acquired multicat vessel, BK Marjorie. Tasked with towing our 1,000-tonne capacity heavy lift barge, P7, the operation supported the transport of heavy plant and equipment destined for the construction of the new Fair Isle ferry terminal at Grutness.
The BK Marjorie and P7 offer us an efficient and cost-effective way to transport oversized equipment that can’t be moved by road. We were contracted to mobilise a fully erected 90-tonne crawler crane with a 42-metre jib, along with an 80-tonne drilling rig. Both machines were swiftly loaded in Lerwick using P7’s roll-on/roll-off ramps, securely lashed to the deck, and then towed to Grutness. Once there, we offloaded the equipment smoothly using the same purpose-built ramps.
Even with such a substantial load, the P7 handled the operation with ease—no surprise, given its proven capacity during a previous salvage job where we transported a 450-tonne concrete barge.
