OUR COMMITMENT TO APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING

March 7, 2018
As part of our drive to be one of the top welding and fabrication engineering companies in the country, investment in apprenticeship training is of key importance.

Consequently we are delighted to support Scottish Apprenticeship Week which runs from the 5th until the 9th of March. This is the nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging more employers to take on apprentices.

The campaign theme for 2018 is “Apprentices are the Business.”

Organised by Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Apprenticeship Week highlights the commitment of businesses that invest in the skills of their workforce.

It shows the success of apprentices who have chosen work-based learning to get qualified to develop their careers.

Our apprentices undertake training in block and day release at North Atlantic Fishery College where they study for a modern apprenticeship in Engineering: fabrication and welding.

They are then integrated into our workforce and given wide experience on various projects in different industry sectors where they are mentored and supported by senior tradesmen, supervision and management. This mixture of classroom and on-the-job training results in the all-round high quality delivery of training required for them to develop into highly specialist tradesmen.

Currently our workforce comprises a good proportion of qualified tradesmen who completed their apprenticeships with the company in this way.

On this page you can also find short interviews with our current compliment of apprentices sharing their experiences and views on the apprenticeship scheme.

We are supported in our apprenticeship training by Train Shetland and details and further information on apprenticeships at Ocean Kinetics and throughout Shetland can be found there.

Developing and training young people to support and contribute to our industry is key for future success and growth and Ocean Kinetics are committed to playing our part in this continual process.
