Freshwater storage tanks for Scottish Water’s £4 million investment in Stronsay

March 9, 2022
We have now completed a major project for Scottish Water

Ocean Kinetics has manufactured two, 18m long, 3.5m wide and high freshwater tanks for Stronsay’s water storage and distribution works.

The tanks have been designed and manufactured under the WRAS guidelines for potable water tanks, allowing Scottish Water to continue to provide customers in Stronsay with clear, fresh drinking water for many years to come.

With a total capacity of 294,000 litres (almost 65,000 gallons) the tanks will be the main component in the £4 million investment by Scottish Water to upgrade the Stronsay water storage and distribution works. Ocean Kinetics’ contract was to design, manufacture, transport and install the tanks and access platform.

The completed tanks will now be transported by our barge straight to Stronsay and placed on new concrete plinths before being plumbed into the local freshwater distribution pipework.

The concept of premanufacturing large stainless tanks and transporting direct to site will prove a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly solution: traditional tanks are generally constructed from concrete with a much higher environmental impact.
