Ocean Kinetics Complete Engine Project For SSEN

October 14, 2021
The engine at Lerwick Power Station is now up and running

Ocean Kinetics are delighted to have completed a major project for Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks at Lerwick Power Station. Over the past year, we have designed, manufactured and installed all the structural steelwork; inlet, exhaust, and lube oil pipework; as well as the filtration equipment for the new, ultra-low-emission Wärtsilä 6 MW generator.

The generator, weighing a total of 100-tonnes, was delivered to Shetland by Wärtsilä Energy in November 2020. It was first lifted by a 650-tonne crane before making the two kilometre journey to Lerwick Power Station. A representative from SSEN stated that this engine was chosen for its “emissions abatement technology”.
